Connect savannah dredge report9/15/2023 ![]() The soils contained a little amount of silt and clay that passed through a #200 sieve and exhibited the typical fine and coarse sand’s permeability, which made the dredged materials suitable for landfill. ![]() The results from the geotechnical tests indicate that the dredged materials were classified as poorly graded sands according to the Unified Soil Classification System. As such, the long-term project viability, including post-construction geotechnical and environmental monitoring was conducted. A demonstration project to determine whether dredged material could feasibly serve as landfill cover was undertaken. The Savannah Harbor’s dredged material containment areas are spread across 7,000 acres along the South Carolina side of the lower Savannah River.
